A&C TODAY INTERVIEW

Wouter Last, President, HINT

HINT has expanded considerable market share in Europe, Middle East and Americas, please describe its voyage from system integration activities to high tech process automation manufacturing, and share some of the company's milestone.

Hint is active in the oil & gas, petrochemical, process and renewable energy sector and provides service and solutions for metering & allocation, process control & automation and online predictive maintenance. We service a broad range of customers. One of the highlights: we did the certification of the NordStream pipeline's security and the construction of the sampling instrumentation system. And we deliver several IT services to Sadara Chemical Company, which is constructing an fully integrated chemicals complex in the east of Saudi Arabia.

Could you please tell us, which are the major industry segments that HINT has been catering in present scenario, and which industry has the maximum potential in the near future?

Oil & gas, petrochemical and process have been our most important markets. Large potential for the near future can be found in the renewable energy sector. Like on- and offshore wind, biomass, LNG, emissions and waste energy use.

Performance, profitability and processes are fundamental to maximize productivity at process industry. Could you please elaborate bottlenecks in the process industry?

The biggest bottlenecks in the industry currently are aging of personnel, which means a loss of knowledge, and the conservative industry that finds it difficult to introduce new technologies and other smarter work flows.

The majority of the companies is not using smart instruments yet, because there is no infrastructure in existing plants available.

What makes HINT different than other process automation component manufacturers in Oil & Gas, Petro (Chemical) and Process Industries?

All Hint professionals have knowledge and experience from an end-user background and with that background, they analyze processes and requirements for customers. Hint can implement professional advice into smart solutions for end-users, to make real what we promise.

We also use these ex end-user professionals to transfer knowledge and experience to the youngsters, that have studied the latest technology in school. In that way, we combine knowledge of all generations.

HINT is synonymous with process automation component product range specifically for Oil & Gas, Petro (Chemical) and Process Industries. Could you highlight the company's AML Dashboard, AML Analyzer Management, AML Metering, AML Loading, Process Control & Automation (PCA) & OPM process automation outline?

These products are all part of the services range we developed ourselves.

The AML Dashboard organizes plant information in a Metering Dashboard using intuitive graphical techniques for navigation. The Dashboard provides an overview and status report of the complete production metering process and tools to give early detection of data quality problems.

90% of the failures is caused by humans. And 80% of those 90% comes from wrong interpretations of engineering standards, lack of knowledge, wrong selection of instruments, overly complex work flows and errors in procedures and work instructions. Companies are lacking online plant IT and predictive maintenance & monitoring systems, which can take over human tasks and eliminate failure.

India is seen as a bright spot in the global economy, are you planning export of your product/services in the Indian and Asian market?

Yes, Hint is investigating to export our services and solutions to India as well, with focus on the on- and offshore software development.

Working more efficiently and integrating existing systems into smart solutions is the biggest challenge for the industry. Efficiency requires investing in the beginning, but it benefits in the end into less emissions, cost reductions, safer working and more efficiency.

All Hint professionals have knowledge and experience from an end-user background and with that background, they analyze processes and requirements for customers.

Internet of Things (IoT) and Connected Enterprise technology adoption are essential for increasing safety of the plant, people and assets, how does HINT see the use of these modern technologies for the plant, people, assets and the future of manufacturing?

10% of the failures comes from instruments, from this location with local employees.

AML Metering is a service of our company that supports plants in their metering activities. Measurement is crucial in the oil and gas industry, mainly to keep track of emissions, for quality control and for safety reasons. All measurements have financial consequences. We can help companies get the best performance with the best price and performance ratio for their measurement problems.

AML Loading is one of the modules of the Hint AML Suite. It is targeted at accounting and registration of the quantity and quality of the delivered products, when loading materials into trucks, railcars, barges and pipelines.

What are the company's expansion plans and marketing challenges in the Middle East market? What have been the company's most recent expansions?

Hint has an office in Bahrain and will work AML Analyzer Management (AMADAS) provides the infrastructure for managing and maintaining analyzers in the field and in the laboratory with a minimum of resources. Analyzer systems require frequent validation and maintenance in order to meet performance requirements. AML Analyze Management makes sure the analyzers provide reliable data.
